The Inuktituk name for this community literally means 'the place that never thaws out', which is fitting since this is Canada's most northerly community! Originally established to confirm Canada's sovereignty over the Arctic Archipelago, Grise Fiord is now known for its picturesque photo opportunities in its icebergs, glaciers and stunning mountain vistas.

Locals are also known for their miniature ivory carvings from walrus tusks, and these beautiful works of art can be purchased, but an export permit is often necessary to carry them home. This is also the land of the Midnight Sun between the months of April and August, where you can experience 24-hour daylight!
