The history of the quest for the Northwest Passage, the great dream of the18th and 19th centuries to open a trade route between the Orient and Europe, is well documented here! This community is home to the Northwest Passage Historic Park, a self-guided walking tour where maps and tools of the early explorers and their captain, Admunsen, are on display, as well as photos taken by one of Admunsen's crew and a replica of the ship.

Local elders still carry oral stories of their visit to Nunavut, which are perhaps the most useful and interesting remains! The community also has a new 18-hole executive golf course, a new arena and several sports rinks. There is also an annual fishing derby which brings many visitors to the region!
